Come visit with us and see quilts made by members of the KCMQG displayed in UMKC's quad.  We'll be there from 10-4 enjoying the beautiful fall weather.

Come join us tomorrow in UMKC's Quad from 10-4.  We'll have a whole bunch of quilts hung on clotheslines.  It should be a really fun venue and the weather is supposed to be beautiful.

I'm planning to be there all day, so come and visit. 

Quilts on the Quad

Are you ready?  KC Modern Quilt Guild is preparing to put on our very first quilt show. 

Want to come join us?  It should be a pretty good show.  We're planning to have over 200 quilts hung up in the quad on the UMKC campus. 

The show will be October 1st from 10am - 4pm at UMKC's Quad near 52nd & Rockhill Road.

Chicago Day #3 - The Show

These are photographs I took at the Chicago International Quilt Festival.  I apologize for their poor quality; I had our small point & shoot (a.k.a. crappy camera) and was limited in time. My mom and I breezed through the display quilts in less than an hour. (It was a very fast trip).

Chicago Day #3 - The Class

Yesterday at the Chicago International Quilt Festival I was lucky enough to take Melanie Testa's Machine Quilting Sampler class.  It was every bit as good as the day before.  If you ever get the chance to take a class she teaches, take the opportunity.  She is truly a fabulous teacher.

This is Melanie's sampler for the class.  (Sorry, the photos are a little crappy.  The lighting was terrible and I only had the little point and shoot camera yesterday.)

Here is a photo of my name tag from the festival.  The bird sticker represents the "Most Studious Student" award I received an award from Melanie.  Fun, eh?


In this class I got to sew on a Bernina (I didn't write down the model number) and really liked it.  It retails for around $3200 I think. 

Did I mention yet how the machines work?  For each student in all the classes that require sewing machines, there is a nice machine provided by different dealers (I think... I guess it could be from the manufacturer, but the dealer makes more sense to me).  The dealers put out each machine for the students to use and provide some sort of an expert in the classroom throughout the day to help with any problems that may arise.  The machines are used for three days before they are packed up and given to their new owners for a highly discounted price.  I think if you are in the market for a new machine and are able to attend an event like this and try out a few different machines, you'd really get a feel for what you like.  And there's an added bonus... the discount.  Because the machines are open stock, they knock off quite a bit... today's machine, the Bernina retails for $3200 (I think) and I could have scooped it up for $2600.  It was a VERY nice machine.  Too bad I don't need to upgrade.

Des Moines Quilt Expo

My mom and I headed to Des Moines this weekend to check out the AQS Quilt Expo - Des Moines. Unfortunately, I can't share the photos I took there with you because something happened when I copied them to the computer. They show up as "Image Invalid". What a bummer. There were some nice quilts there that I would have liked to share with you. I'm irritated, but trying not to let it get to me.

So, instead... I can share the photos I took at Fons and Porter's Quilt Supply in Winterset, Iowa. Somehow those photos came out fine. I'm not sure what happened to the quilt show photos.








We saw two celebrities on this little trip. We saw Marianne Fons of Fons and Porter at her quilt shop in Winterset, Iowa. We also saw Eleanor Burns at the Quilt Show in Des Moines. How exciting!

I'll be a little absent.

Hello, readers.

I decided over the weekend to participate in a craft fair at a local church. I've never done a craft fair, so this will be a good learning experience for me. I've got a stock pile of things to sell and just worked on my killer spreadsheet (seriously, this thing rocks!) to track my items, sales, prices, and such.

If you live in the Kansas City area, it's November 14th, 8am - 8pm at the One Community Spiritual Center.

Over then next few weeks I'll be working on making some new items to add to my "for sale stash". This means that I've got a lot of work to do in a short period of time, so blogging is going to take a backseat until after the fair. I do have a few posts throughout the weeks already written and set to post on certain days, so don't forget about me completely.

What else do I have going on soon? This weekend, my mom and I are heading to Des Moines for the quilt expo.

Don't you love it when they give you gloves at a quilt show? I hate when they don't because I have to walk around with my hands in my pockets just so I won't accidentally touch something I'm not supposed to. I love the feel of fabric, so pockets or gloves are a must. I just can't help myself.

I love this one. I love the simplicity of it. I love scrappy quilts that don't have an overall theme. They seem like they have more of a necessity to them than a specific statement. Somehow, no matter what fabrics are put together, they seem to work.

Unfortunately I only took a few photos of this quilt. It was fabulous. It was solid red and white fabrics on the front and I loved the back fabric. It matched beautifully. It was heavily hand quilted. Gorgeous! Sorry about the lack of overall photo on this one. At least you can get a sneak peek.
