My last KC Scrappy Bee Block

I love flying geese. One of the most fun blocks I did in this year in the KC Scrappy Bee was this block for Nikki where I did the geese flying in a circle and then put it in the center of a six-minute circle.

I really, really love the flying geese in a circle block, so I was a little sad that Carla beat me to making it for this round. I like to have a variety in a quilt, so I decided I needed to do something different for Beth's quilt. I poked around on flickr and came up with something a little bit different than what I thought everyone else would come up with.



This is what I made for Beth.  I really love the color scheme Beth chose for her quilt.

This was my last month participating in the KC Scrappy Bee.  I decided to sit out the next round.  It's been fun, ladies! 

For Parthena in the KC Scrappy Bee.

This is definitely my favorite block in the KC Scrappy Bee.  Parthena asked us to each make a wonky house in bright colors.  My envelope included everything but the raindrops and green fabrics.  I think this turned out really cute.

I wish I would have thought of this quilt idea.  I got to see some of the blocks Parthena is receiving and they all turned out adorable!  It will definitely be a super cute quilt.

KC Scrappy Bee Block for Carla.

Last month was Carla's month to be the hostess for the KC Scrappy Bee.  She had each of us make this awesome "X" block for her out of a really fun red/pink/aqua/grey color scheme. 



This is the block I gave to her.  Fun, right?

For Angela in the KC Scrappy Bee

This is the block I made for Angela in last month's edition of the KC Scrappy Bee. 


She requested a square-in-a-square block using only the fabrics she provided.  I loved the colors she chose to put together for this batch.  I ran into an "uh-oh-how-am-i-going-to-finish-this?" moment towards the end when I started to run low on fabric.  I used very close to every single inch I was given, thus the different colored corner on this block.  Funny how things sometimes just seem to work, eh?

It's my month for the KC Scrappy Bee!

Hi!  I thought I'd share with you what I have planned for the KC Scrappy Bee in the month of December. 

Idea

I don’t think you guys have any idea how much I love Christmas. I really, really, really LOVE Christmas. A LOT! I love the season, the shopping, and the traditions. I have wanted to make a fun Christmas quilt for myself for a very long time, but just haven’t gotten to it. I thought this would be the perfect project to have my bee help me with.

Fabric

I’d like all the blocks have a white background to make the colors really pop.  I’m giving each of my fellow bee members two fabrics: one red and one tealy-turquoise colored.







The color scheme I have in mind is kind of a fresh & cheery Christmas. I was envisioning these kinds of colors, but my bee members should feel free to add anything that fits the fresh & cheery description.



Size

My size request is a little bit odd… I’d like to lay this quilt out on a 4x4 grid. Each block just needs to fit into that grid. That means blocks that finish at 4x4, 4x8, 8x8, and 12x16 all work!

Design

Anything Christmas works for me! It could make a gingerbread house, gingerbread man, elf, candy cane, Santa, reindeer, present, mistletoe, Christmas tree, stockings, or anything else they can think of.

Hannah's Blocks for the KC Scrappy Bee

The KC Scrappy Bee is still going strong.  Tonight, we will turn in our 7th blocks to Hannah.  She requested  10" concentric square blocks using white, grey, light blue, and yellow. 

I couldn't find any yellow in my stash yesterday that I liked with the grey and the blue, so I skipped the yellow all together.  I think they turned out fresh & clean. 



Hannah gave us each a bit of the grey fabric.  The whites and blue are from my stash. 



I think I have to agree with Nikki, though... I'm not a seam-presser-opener.  :)

Blocks for Jaime

Jaime wanted us to use our thinking caps for last month's project in the KC Scrappy Bee.  She gave each of us several scraps left over from her garment making projects.  The only thing I added from my stash was the solid brown I used as the background for both blocks. 



Jaime requested we include circles in our blocks.  I used the six-minute circle technique to make my circles.  It's a really fun method to do and is pretty easy, too!




Hope you like them Jaime!  I had fun making them!

Can't wait to get started on Hannah's block for next month!

KC Scrappy Bee

Septebmer was Paula's month in the KC Scrappy Bee.  Yes, I'm turning in the October blocks tonight, but just pretend I'm on top of things and this is all new and hip.

So, Paula gave us this awesome bluebird fabric and wanted wonky eight-pointed stars. 

Paula gave us the address to this tutorial.  Super easy to follow and they worked up really quickly!  I made these two blocks for her just a few hours before the hand off.







I think they turned out pretty cute! I just love the bluebird fabric that we started with. I can't wait to see the quilt that Paula puts together!

Butterfly Blocks for Toni

This month it was Toni's turn to direct us in the KC Scrappy Bee.  She decided to have us each make butterfly blocks.  We were each given a different color of hand dyed fabric to play with.  I chose the purples to use in my blocks.  I was able to make two blocks before I ran out of the black fabric I had. 





I made one skinny and one fat.  I think it gives the personality!  I roughly used this tutorial to make these guys.  I thought it would be even more "scrappy" if I just eye-balled it, so that's just what I did!

Toni didn't specify a size for the blocks, so I just trimmed mine to a rectangle so Toni can slice them to whatever the quilt dictates.

Bee Block for Andrea

Here's the block I made for Andrea for the KC Scrappy Bee.  She asked for pluses and minus using the blue dotted fabric. 



I have been trying to overcome my fear of color lately, by using a color wheel for just about everything.  Typically, I use white as the background for EVERYTHING!  Jason convinced me that orange was the right choice here and that I could handle it.  I think it turned out. 

Andrea mentioned that she didn't particularly care if the the blocks were 12.5", but if they added up to that size, that'd be great.  I thought I'd put a bunch of mini blocks together to make a 12.5" block that she can pull apart if she likes.  I thought the mini blocks together were a little more interesting than just a plus or minus sign.

Robot Quilt - Block #2

Robot Quilt Block #2.  I used a flying geese pattern I found online and used this tutorial to create the cirle.  Awesome, eh?

Bee Block for Nikki

This is the block I made for Nikki in the KC Scrappy Bee. 



I started by using this online paper-piecing pattern for the flying geese.

That was all going just dandy until I got about 7/8ths of the way through.  I ran out of the white fabric.  And then I couldn't find anymore of it anywhere. Oh, no!  What's a girl to do?  Raid her mama's stash, of course! I'm lucky she often has the same fabric I do. Thanks mom!

So, I finished the block and decided I didn't love it.  There was way too much white. 

Then comes this tutorial.  What do ya think?  I think it turned out pretty snazzy.  I hope Nikki feels the same.
